An ancient proverb goes: “It takes both sunshine and rain to make a rainbow.” In a sense this book is an autobiography of a young man who experienced sunshine and rain throughout life that ended up at the end of a rainbow. The story spans ten years, from early teens to young adulthood, and relates the author’s perception of the world around him. He was wet behind the ears during the advent of the Cold War and the accompanying Red Scare; however, vivid memories of this period survived intact and are worthy of sharing. This journal takes the reader back to an interesting and unique time through accounts of unusual personal experiences, some stranger than fiction. At times some historical facts from various sources have been inserted to help buttress statements. Hopefully this book will assist others to live vicariously an exciting decade of history – 1945 to 1955.
